| partners | | Had friends backpacking in the canyon so we decided to make a loop of it and meet up with them.
Hadn't been in the area since the 2018 Tinder Fire. The top is matchsticks. A lot of it burned hot and is still void of grass and vegetation even two years later. Yay, people who can't put out a campfire!
The descent could be kinder. Maybe time will help? We went upstream to the crossing. There were a couple of occupied campsites and a handful of people enjoying crawdad races on the falls.
I hadn't been on this side since 2014 when I had to jump in and rescue @brunop from drowning during the dam release flooding. Bad memory with a good result.
Much easier travel downstream without the high flow, though still a little thick for about a mile in the middle. We kept going in search for the others but never ran into them and bailed out on the MM route, which wasn't too bad.
The canyon bottom is nice enough, but both sides are pretty severely burned. Too bad. It was some nice forest up there. |
