| partners | | john and i did an out and back of the highline portion of azt #26
day 1:
got an early start and were hiking before 0600
a good bit of uphill initially, then typical highline up and down before a drop into geronimo
camped at bray creek, about 12.5 miles in
nice water supply and a good campsite
relaxed and read the rest of the afternoon
mid 80s and breezy
saw three backpackers, one of them camped nearby - nice chat with jamie
day 2:
day hike to washington park, setting out around 0715
we did not do the colonel devin piece, as we did this last year
crossed several flowing creeks - the chase creek area would make a nice campsite
again finished early afternoon
relaxed a bit, then explored down bray canyon later on
day 3: back to pine trailhead
got going just before 0700 (we like to have our coffee)
packs were a few pounds lighter after consuming the consumables
filtered water at webber creek and red rock spring box
nice downhill to finish
random thoughts:
all new territory for me
less mileage but higher aeg and more difficult terrain than our last trip
still refining our backpacking skilz
nailed the food and clothing, would have liked to have a chair
nice to have some time to relax
water is the key
found out from @chumley that the beeline was closed
had lunch in pine and went home the long way; only cost us about 30 minutes
thanks for another great trip, john!
