| no partners | | The smart play was to stay home. I'm not always smart. It was warm, probably low 90's when I finished.
I haven't been on this section of the Highline Trail and it was an opportunity to hike a section of a segment of the AZT. This was an out and back. Two or three more trips up here and I can wrap up AZT26!
I saw three elk, a vulture circling overhead and a horned toad. Didn't see any people until I reached the AZT gate on my return where I passed two men heading the other way. 30 minutes later I heard four shots fired, from a handgun it sounded like. Not cool.
I brought three liters of water and a bottle of Gatorade. Finished the last of the water at the trailhead. Had an ice cold canteen waiting in the truck for the trip home. Drank most of that by the time I reached Payson so I stopped in Payson to replenish.
In spite of the heat, it was an enjoyable hike. |
