There was 1 other car in the parking lot when I arrived, but the owners soon returned carrying float tubes and a 14" trout they had pulled out of Placid Lake (shockingly large for a lake that appears deceptively shallow).
Some moderate size drifts of snow and ice up to Placid Lake, but mostly bare ground. Snow progressively increased as I headed up to Chenamus Lake and then up towards the PCT.
Eventually lost the trail in the snow about 3/4 of a mile before reaching the PCT intersection. I retraced my steps for a bit, but couldn't find any sign of the trail, so I decided to bushwhack up a snow covered ridge until I eventually intersected the PCT.
Followed the PCT north until I reached the PCT/Placid Lake junction marker. Although I wanted to continue up to Wood Lake, I knew it wouldn't be fun to continue to struggle with the snow covered trail, so I decided to head back at this point. |
