random ridge and back through Bellota Canyon
9:10 – left the truck
9:18 – barbed wire fence
9:47 - small window. Headed up too soon. Big vein of quartz and crystal
9:54 – up narrow crack in cliff. Slipped nearly fell back down. First attempt my backpack hung up on the cliff wall behind me. Then the cliff crumbled. left me stuck about 10 feet up.

10:02 ridge - - took a 10 min break here. The whole ridge was about a mile. no path or animal trail anywhere. The final 400 feet down into the canyon were very steep. the kind of steep that you dont recover from if you fall. I was glad to be down out of that. A better way would have added half a mile to my goal.

11:05 – at the dam. Rested and snacked for about 10 minutes
11:56 lower bellota spring – rest
12:07 check out tailing above watering troughs. May not be tailings
12:17 – deer stand in tree
12:19 – at the gate in the fence that crosses the creek bed
12:28 on crystal cliff –
12:45 – broke bottle of water and soaked my backside

Back at truck at 12:57

The ridge to the East was very narrow and steep in place.
The last climb down into the canyon was steeper than muffin.
Entered the canyon about 50 yards from bobby tank dam.
The canyon to the north was too choked with brush to go back so I’ll try this way from the higher end of the canyon in hopes that gravity will help push through all that mess.

I ended up with a ton of scratches as the cats claw was unavoidable at times.

The trip back through the canyon was pretty easy.
Plenty of time and energy to check out what looked like tailings and some other cliffs.
Saw a couple of coatimundies
its b een a while since i did a challening one.
this one was a lot of work.
beautiful and a challenge.
I wish I had taken longer
