Been on this one before with my girl and took a wrong turn and we ended up very far from our intended goal. We took 2 and a half hours to get to a place that should have taken 30 minutes.
Today it took 30 minutes to get back from the end goal to the truck.
And once again took a little over 2 hours to get to the same place from a totally different direction.
Total distance was 3.15 miles. Uphill both ways.
It’s remote and has a beautiful view of the San Rafael valley, Huachuca Mountains and that big blimp above Sierra Vista.
Windy, Chilly, Sunny, Quiet
Open fire and cast iron cookin
AND! Left my plate and fork and cup at home.

There are a few mine shafts in this area. I've seen pictures of one of them on HikeAZ. It was easy to recognize by the posts holding up the roof and the shape of the opening. The minerals in the attached photo set are not from inside the mine, they were laying on top of the tailings. I grew up in Coal Country, Appalachia and have no interest in climbing into a potential tomb. |
