This was a short steep one.
Had a few hours after work and decided to check out an outcropping of rocks along a ridge above the Narrows in Peck canyon. First elevation gain was a little over 400 feet.
Nice breeze at the top of the mesa.
Light clouds and calm solitude.
There is a cedar tree at the North end of the mesa that gave some shade and a great view of Mt. Wrightson in the distance.
Took a different way back down on the opposite side of the ridge and found a 4-inch metal pipe sticking out of the ground about a foot. It was called and had the initials FF on the metal cap.
About 40 yards away was another pipe and at the cliff above the narrow part of peck was a third one.
On the was back up toward the first pipe was what looked like a very faint road. I thought this may have been a road down into the canyon or maybe a way to get back the narrow part with a horse and wagon.
Instead of leading back to the canyon it lead around the ridge and there was a fourth pipe.
I thought the first one might be a vent for a mine further down the mtn but there was no sign of one.
After finding the second and third one I believe they are survey markers.
Hiking speed seems slow but I checked out a lot of interesting features along the ridge. Lots of fun scrambling.
