Dropped my daughter off at her mom's which put me in the neighborhood. I also wanted to try my new Salewa's that @LindaAnn turned me on to.

My office is equidistant to Piestewa and Camelback (Echo side). I learned pretty early on that I am a Piestewa guy, so I'll do Camelback once or twice a year on a hot day, but try to make Piestewa an after work celebration of life as frequently as possible. I have been back to the office once since April so it has been at least since March or February that I have been up here.

I think what I like best about Piestewa are the people who choose to hike this mountain. There are always a couple of conversations that start on the way up and finish at the summit. There is less tourist traffic than its neighbor to the East and more locals which is nice.

I love hiking on days like today. The skies were filled with giant balls of cotton out to SoMo and from the North and East it was fun to watch little mini-cells of rain move towards the mountain. The summit trail traffic wasn't too busy and it wasn't hard to find a parking spot.

Finally, while I hate the government spending money on virtually anything, I must commend the City of Phoenix for the tasteful and aestheticly pleasing efforts to upgrade the parking areas at the base of the mountain. The bridge is especially well done as are the bathrooms.

I'll probably be back no sooner than when my office opens back up, but I will look forward to getting back into a routine that includes more frequent visits to Piestewa and the Phoenix Mountain Preserve.
