Route Scout Route Recorded  on Route Scout Popup | MapDEX
The kids are spending the holiday weekend with their mom so I was afforded an opportunity to get out with a dog friendly version of the Cabin Loop.

I started at the intersection of FR 139 and Barbershop Trail at 8:30 AM and decided to go counter-clockwise. It was cold the first half of the hike at right about freezing. For a colder hike like this I will typically start with three layers and I didn't take my soft shell outer layer off until midway through U-Bar.

I could go on and on about how amazing this loop is but I feel like most everyone on HAZ, has been out here. Nonetheless, if you haven't then put it high up on your list. This is a very hiker/backpacking friendly area as there is water everywhere, at least there is right now.

The highpoint of the day for me was the first 2/3 of U-Bar. The open pine glades remind me of the east side of the cascades around Bend. Oregon.

I burned through my battery about 2 miles from my truck. The mobile charger I had with me didn't work. Those last 2 miles had a lot of deadfall which I hadn't seen all day and also enough snow to make route finding tricky. I lost the trail, but popped out on FR 139 right at my truck.

I didn't see anyone or even tracks in the snow of anyone. There are a ton of deer droppings and I think I saw an Elk bolting up the side if Barbershop Canyon. I'll be back soon to complete the Fred Haught and General Crook sections.
