After spending the past week monitoring, living in and hiking around the leftover storm snowpack the day could have not have been more ideal with the mountain properly thawed and a Easter egg blue sky with calm conditions.
Ol’ @jonnybackpack made the hearty trek to the lower RC falls earlier in the week and we saw some of his “Mazatzal Monster” footprints in the faded melted snow but after that it was nothing but breaking through 8”-10” of consistent snowpack with drifts of 1 to 3 feet in some spots along the switchbacks segments that climb up the two main cliff bands.
RC Falls was looking better than ever but I think that was mainly due to my wonderful company who I was very proud of for making the trek, the puppy included.
Always nice to head down this trail and really enjoy the expansive hard earned views looking at not only the great beyond but it’s one of those trails where you can see your vehicle down below the majority of the time giving one a good sense of wilderness distance perspective.
Quite possibly one of the most memorable days outside I’ve ever had and one I’ll never forget. |
