| no partners | | Another training hike. Slate to Ord is great for this - within an hour of home, significant elevation change at altitude, and cooler than the valley. Needed to start upping the miles/AEG, so decided on a double.
Round 1: Felt great going up and jogged a bit on the way down.
Lunch: A leisurely lunch at my truck at the TH. Did some work on my heels and switched shoes to give this pair that has been giving me trouble one last try before returning them. (brought the pair that I used in round 1 in my pack just in case).
Round 2: Still pretty good, but not as fast. Had to stop a couple miles in and switch shoes, luckily REI has a very friendly return policy. I was starting to feel it that last mile or so up and was happy when at the top. Round 1 at the summit was fairly windy and cold, but now it was perfectly still and the sun felt great - no need to put on a jacket. There was no jogging on the way down this time, but was glad I was heading downhill. Had to eventually breakout the headlamp, finishing at 7:10.
Saw a few whitetails and one hiker on the main road and that was it. One vehicle at the top gate as I was coming down late. Weather was close to perfect, with only a little wind in the first half of the day. A great day to be in out in AZ!
My body was barking at me all day on Monday, but feeling pretty close to "normal" today. |
