This is an easy hike, with a surprising sense of isolation considering how close it is to Tucson. Especially once you get over the pass above the reservoir, you feel like you're in a whole different part of the state, and like the metropolis is hundreds of trail miles away (when in fact, just a short hike will bring you into Sabino). The trail was easy to follow the whole way, with grasses to brush my legs and very few of the thornier friends to trip me up. This was the day after a big rain, so there was water in nearly every drainage. The fire reovery has really kicked in, and many of the oaks were starting to look like 4-5 foot tall shrubs. A great portion of the hike - and an easy section for when I do my through-hike! |
