| no partners | | Warren invited me to a hike from First Water trailhead since he hasn't hiked from there much in the past. We decided on Black Top Mesa. He had never been there and I have not since 2009.
The temperature was warmer than expected, in the upper 50's, when we got started. We hiked through some burn along the way. The vegetation is bouncing back and fortunately there is not much catclaw encroaching on the trails.
The spur trail up to the mesa is covered in knee high grass. Enough people have hiked through it to make the trail visible most of the time.
We hiked out to the end of the mesa, enjoyed the great views, and poked around looking for glyphs.
On the return to the Bull Pass trail we crossed paths with a gentleman who forgot to wear pants. Once he saw us he slid a Tarzan like loin cloth in front but left the caboose exposed. Yikes!
As we got closer to the trailhead we encountered more and more hikers, runners, backpackers, and a dozen horseback riders in a single group.
Fun hike. |
