| no partners | | Got started around 0830 and headed out on Second Water trail since I couldn’t face Dutchman trail both ways—it’s just too boring for me. South on Black Mesa Trail, which has always been rocky, but seemed even more so today. Once at Dutchman, we headed up Bull Pass, then up to Black Top Mesa. Quick break, then back down. Once back on Dutchman, we headed over to Aylors Arch. The wash was marked with pink flags, then easy to follow cairns from the wash up to the top of Palomino Mtn. Made our way over to view the arch, then headed back down, stopping at the mines along the way. Helpful to have a pole considering how steep it is, but recent rain softened the ground a little too, which helped with traction. Finished up the last four or so miles on Dutchman, ugh, but at least it went by quickly. Dropped my phone, shattering the glass screen protector, but no damage to the actual phone. Managed to get glass stuck in my finger though; took a few minutes to dig that out. Warm by the time we finished, and hardly any breeze today. Overall, not a huge amount of fire damage along this route. Saw three cardinals, but not much else. |
