Encountered several large groups today most doing the Hackberry Springs Loop. Black Mesa Trail was solitude time until just stepping into Boulder Basin. Another group of about 10 coming down Bull Pass trail after that had the place to myself. Went up on Black Top Mesa to enjoy the views, took a snack break there. The “petroglyphs” have practically vanished, not sure how we will find the gold mine now! The path up is more well defined as the grass has been trampled down quite a bit. Lots of horse travel lately , abandoned blanket on Black Mesa Trail and horse hair collections in the vegetation along the Dutchman . Water encountered in all the creek crossings but minimal flow. Passed through First Water trailhead only 2 vehicles and a modified bus about 1700, I saw them leaving while on the connector to the horse lot ,which was empty save my vehicle. To paraphrase Al Morrow, “ I found the Superstition Mountains to be a place of wonder and solitude where I could think clearly, enjoy nature and occupy myself in a pursuit that is interesting and healthy”. That about sums it up. |
