It was the perfect autumn day at Horton Creek - deep blue sky, 78 degrees, the leaves are turning and the ones that haven't are still bright green. I love the smell of the pines!
Instead of taking the trail right to the spring, I hiked the edge of the creek most of the way. It's a lot tougher, some climbing and scrambling, but the trail takes you away from the creek most of the time and that's what I came for. If I wanted to see more dirt and rocks, I could have just stayed home. It added about a mile and a half but it was worth it. I hooked up with the trail for the last mile or so to the spring and then just walked the trail back. Very few people out there today, a couple horses, but I expect it will be different for the weekend.
If you're interested in doing this hike, I would recommend getting out there before next weekend if you can. My guess is a sick day on Monday or Tuesday would be about as good as it gets! |
