Had the need to hike in snow, even if just a little bit, and only had time for a short hike. There's a special place in my heart for Shovel Saddle, so I made for it. Took Super to Pipeline, then up to Rogers Rock (which had a little snow on it), then followed the ridge up to Four Springs trail, then on to Shovel Saddle. I love this route, as I've never encountered another hiker on most of these trails and I feel like I have the Santa Ritas all to myself.

Other than a mass of tree debris blocking the Four Springs trail about 3 miles in, the trails are in great shape. The ridge "trail" between Rogers Rock and Four Springs had burned recently but not bad.

Lots of patchy snow most of the way up! Had a delightful lunch at Shovel Saddle, and greatly enjoyed the views from there. It was a warm, sunny day, which felt a bit odd considering all the snow on the ground.

On the return I decided to stay on Four Springs down to Kent Spring, which was snowy and frozen, then past Sylvester to reconnect with Pipeline. I'm not sure it was a great idea as the downhill part between Kent and Sylvester is steep and I kinda had to run it, which my feet didn't appreciate so much.
