I was accompanied on this hike by a friend Ken G. We proceeded from the trial along a well marked trail. About 1/4 mile in there is a sign in station, a metal box on a pole with a a paper roster. We duly noted our passing. The trail climbs and follows the canyon wall up towards a saddle where the trail intersects with the Kings Canyon trail and as trail to the summit of Wassom peak. There was a nice morning breeze as we ascended but it disappeared as the noon hour approached.
I was hiking in a new pair of boots. I had to stop several time to make lace adjustments. We stopped for a brief rest at the saddle and decided to leave the final assault to the summit for another day. We returned the same way. As the sun warmed up the afternoon the canyons became very hot. I'm glad I packed some extra water. This was a great hike with great views. |
