The hike from the previous weekend just about did in my boots. So new boots and the agony of new boot break in. I wear full leather boots and there really is no way to break them in, really in, except by walking in them. I needed a short hike of a couple of miles to "get the feel" of these new rides.
The Catalina St park is now in full "tourist season swing mode". There is an additional gift shop opened by the trail head parking lot next to the bathrooms. Also the State has filled in the run off ruts on several of the initial grades leading to three of trail heads. This is probably more to accommodate equestrians than hikers.
I headed up the Romero Canyon trail to the Montrose Pools and the then reversed completing the circuit back to the parking lot. It was almost sunset so I did the nature trail loop. I had a great view of the setting sun to the west and meet some folks from Canada walking a dog very slowly. They we're concerned about yet hopeful to see a snake.
I told them I hadn't seen a snake in several weeks. They actually seemed disappointed. The new boots said the hike was about over. I hustled back to the parking lot. |
