A bear is active in the area between Josephine and Baldy Saddle. I noticed a fair amount of rock strewn over the trail while going up. Hiking down I ran into the culprit. A solo bear, probably a male as it lacked cubs, and it was a pretty good size. He was about 50 feet off the trail, turning over rocks and rolling them down hill so I initially thought a deer had heard me and was running down slope away from me. He was not aggressive, but he did not run away and he never really strayed from where I encountered him. I waited in the area, and after a few minutes he actually came back to where I first saw him. I left shortly after.

Pretty nice day. Great clouds, birds, cicadas, and the bear, too. Hot and humid, buy still okay.
