Frost covered the grass in the morning chill. A cow and baby moose galloped through the willows not too far away, while a bull moose stood motionless in the distance. Lots of friendly hikers trudging up the tundra slopes with me but it was never what I would call crowded. Only one snow drift on the trail, at the foot of the bouldered summit cone, but easily avoided. Made the summit in a little under 2 hours. Clear skies, distant views, and a close up marmot sighting. Heading down, a mountain goat was casually hiking up the trail right behind a couple of hikers, pretty funny to see. Back on the flats, lots of hikers were starting their summit attempts, while clouds were starting to billow above. Overall a pretty easy hike, despite asthma giving me hell. Spent the rest of the day exploring the Clear Creek Canyon corridor. Beautiful area. |
