After work hike during the final throes of a winter-ish spring storm, up to the mouth of Romero Creek. I had the rain-soaked trail entirely to myself. Beneath lofty cliffs, I took refuge under a sycamore tree with its sweet brown sugar aroma, listening to rain drops hit the pool below and a cool moist breeze funnel through the canyon floor. So wonderful. Walking across the foothills, cotton candy clouds tumbled over the high ridges, in various sunset hues of pinks and oranges. A double rainbow faded in and out over the entirety. A fog of snow flurries enveloped the bluish cast of Cathedral Peak. Wind whistled through saguaro spines. Dusk ended the show and I made my way back reluctantly. The weather and conditions were so unexpectedly special and rare, making for a very special hike.
