We got started around 0100 and we kept a comfortable pace as we headed uphill. No moonlight gave us a very starry night sky, nice temps, and no wind. Pleasant hike up to the saddle, where we took a short break before continuing up the final mile to the summit. Slower pace on that mile, which was fine since we were well ahead of sunrise.
Got to the top as the sky was just beginning to brighten. Temp was 40, and a light breeze made it feel cool with sweaty shirts. Another early hiker arrived at the summit a few minutes later and we all chatted and shared some banana bread Katie had baked for a summit snack. Muted colors for the sunrise, but still pretty, and after pics, we headed downhill, our group now four instead of three.
Made good time downhill as we passed all the hikers who were heading uphill. Great hike and good to see Katie again, and nice to meet Cole and Andrew. |
