Don't really consider this much of a hike though it did have a bit of elevation gain, mainly steps. This is worth the stop if you have a couple hours. What I like about this place is that the walk is not a guided tour. I actually liked this place better than Mesa Verde even though the ruins aren't as large. The scenery overlooking Walnut Canyon is great, wish they would extend the hike to include a walk through the bottom of the canyon.
I was thinking this was the first time here but when I got down to where the trail splits I had this weird feeling of Deja vu like I had been here before. I don't believe in past lives but I did remember coming here with a friend back in 1975, completely forgot about that. It was the 70s there are probably a lot more things I forgot around that time. Any way it was like seeing it the first time, well worth the stop. There were maybe a dozen people in the park so it was not crowded at all and the thunderstorms kept their distance. There are signs all along the path that have names and information about all the different plants and other points of interest. |
