| no partners | | Another hike in the Alps this time near Garmisch. We started at a trailhead near the Hollentalklamm Gorge. The trail ascends about 300 meters on trail until it reaches the start of the gorge. Parts of the trail are blasted out of the rock with some tunnels as it ascends through the narrows. There were a lot of people in the gorge section but still well worth it. After finishing the gorge section the canyon opens back up with great views of Zugsptize and the surrounding peaks.
About half way up canyon there was a hut Hollentalangerhutte which is usually the case. We stopped for a beverage and hearty snack. After the break we continued up canyon to the base of the semi technical rock scramble. From there it was about 3 1/2 hours to the summit which we were not doing but we enjoyed the awesome views from high above the canyon. It was a fantastic consolation prize for not doing the summit.
Break over we headed back down canyon but on the way back took a different trail that bypassed the gorge. Nice trail with very few other hikers but it was also getting pretty late after 8pm by the time we arrived at the trailhead. |
