We started the traverse on the Lenggreis side of the mountain and crossed the Isar River to a Gondola for the start. Kind of cheating but saved us 2000 feet of climbing and got us to the best part the traverse.
Exiting the Gondola it's pretty much on the ridge traverse. Lots of up and down on the ridge and some fun cable sections on the more exposed spots. About half way through the hike there of course was a beer hut underneath a nice cliff wall so we had to stop. Enjoyed the break before continuing on the traverse.
On the opposite side lots of downhill because we had no gondola and basically hiked into the valley town of Kochel. From there we caught the bus back to the train and then to Munich. German public transportation is super efficient so really don't need a car. In this case since we didn't have a car it made the hike easier not having to do a shuttle. |
