| no partners | | Last day of this year; a renewal of sorts. I've had more than a few in this life.
Couldn't remember the ridgeline route exactly, ended up east of where I should have been. It worked, I was cliffed out once but followed the signs for the route into the canyon. This place is not that easy to get into from this access but private land prohibits one end of the canyon, allows access on the other but most hikers never get into this end of the long canyon.
Water in the desert always nice. Late for the trees; maybe next year. Walked downcanyon till the water was gone and it opened up. Looked the map marked ruins and saw some low wall outlines but with all the brush not sure and of course I may not have gone far enough. Far enough for me this day. Found the proper route out, steep on the outset then is a nice walk and undulating ridges. The washes here are not much fun with all sorts of pour offs which can be really difficult to get around with the crumbly rock.
I was tired upon return to the Jeep, was going to camp but spied some sort of fluid leak involving either the front diff or brake line. Made it home ok.
TMI but it has been a rough few months. Diagnosed late spring with a cancer diagnosis, treatment took a toll; then my 99+ yo mother fell fracturing some of her spine and ribs. She survived it and I made the difficult decision for her to go into assisted living. She seems to be adjusting ok. I am the one who needs a life adjustment. My port has been removed and my numbers good and I am finished with treatment.
I kept some hiking but pretty pitiful considering what I used to do. Had to cancel some big plans. 2023 is my goal for a renewal and return to some old haunts and some unfinished business. Happy new year everyone and may we all get to where we want to go! |
