Several trips later and I did just that, rolling in Sat afternoon, backing the Toyota up to the very edge near an old fire ring. Great evening and morning light and I slept great in the back of the vehicle as I usually do. Next morning a short drive to my hike for the day; finally successfully retracing a route in to the canyon. I find this route very intuitive for an out, not so much in. Now up the canyon connecting a small section I had not been in.
Very little drama, interesting geology from reddish mudstone, to crazy conglomerate, to some large sheets of maybe slickensides, etc. It was just as easy to walk in the shallow stream as work the banks, which were littered with some impressive flood debris at spots. Saw a total of 4 crested Saguaros this trip, this area has a healthy population and a number of the crested ones. No boot prints, no trash, just prints from deer and javelina. Following the water was somewhat mesmerizing. A good flow, and just a nice mellow walk. I knew of another way out but was not sure about finding it and just decided to retrace my steps. Not a bad thing in this very pleasant place. Up to the mesa top and a sweet drive home. |
