I'm calling this route Mint Creek Trail #345, because on January 14, 2023 the waters in Mint Wash were in full flow, requiring the use of stepping stones on a half dozen crossings in the south half of the trail, even with waterproof boots. The waters in Mint Wash and its tributaries provided an accompaniment for the hike, twice in stereo as tributaries came down from the north.
About 1.5 miles from the Williamson Valley Trailhead there is a fishhook departure from Mint Wash Trail #345 to view petroglyphs. When you find the sign with the natural rock house on your left, climb the trail behind the sign to view the petroglyphs on a nearly horizontal rock (see photos). |
