We started at 1 pm and summited in about 30 minutes. Along the way, there were some ocotillo, a few prickly pear and I even saw a few pincushion cactuses. These are the cactuses that only grow a few inches high and have a top that looks like a barrel cactus without the fish hook type thorns. The thorns are thinner and smaller. Going up, we simply followed the ridgeline but needed to shift to a second ridge that was further North. On the top of the peak we saw some kind of antenna with a solar panel attached. Looking to the South we could see the snow covered Mica mountain. Maybe this year, I'll try to summit that one. There were 2 larger rock piles on the West side of the peak. We looked all around for a registry but could not find one. Luckily, I happened to be carrying an empty jar with me, so I left a new registry, placed right under a few rocks at the top of the rock pile. It was a pretty easy hike overall, not really a bushwhack because there were very few obstacles to go around. |
