Headed out to the ultra smooth FR213 yesterday, parked at the upper Tortilla TH to hike Peter's Trail. There was a lifted Tacoma and 4Runner TRD Pro at the lower TH (which I don't understand) when I got there. The start of Peter's trail was supposed to be severely overgrown with catclaw, however some recent trail maintenance has been done and the trail is in fantastic shape initially. Made my way across the couple different creek crossing (water was flowing nicely) and started the ascent up the first ridge. Made a stop at Kane Spring, which is a little more difficult to find now as it is severely overgrown around it and continued up to the first ridge. I had totally forgotten how steep and slippery the last bit of section here was so it was a slow climb for me. Made it up to the ridge and over to the second ridge before climbing down into Peter's Canyon. The section through Peter's Canyon was in okay shape, there was definitely some catclaw, but I brought some clippers and did some light trimming along the way. Made a quick detour hiking a quarter mile or so up Peter's Canyon before making my way up to Peter's Mesa. I had been up to the mesa once before but it was late in the day and I did not have time to explore. Yesterday, I hiked over to where the mesa overlooks La Barge and Charlebois Canyon, basically a mile before it drops down and connects with the Dutchman. I did not feel like descending 600 feet just to turn around and hike back up it again, so I found a nice spot that overlooks the area and had lunch before packing up and hiking back out to my rig. I came across two guys on Peter's Mesa who were on a 7 day backpacking adventure and on my way down a group of guys near Kane Spring who were backpacking at Charlebois and that was it. I did see very fresh horse tracks going all the way up to the first ridge which would be a scary ride to me seeing how steep and slippery it is. Excellent weather yesterday, although a bit humid, the clouds and nice breeze kept the temps down. Just another great day in the Supes checking off another area, I hadn't fully explored.
