Made my way up 287A to Miles Ranch, where there were no other cars in sight. Road is in decent condition, however there are a good amount of smaller rock that have fallen onto the road. Started off through the ranch meadow, made a left up Bull Basin and finally to the Rock Creek Trail. For a trail that has been decommissioned for quite sometime it is in great shape, in fact it's in better shape then some of the 'maintained' trails. With all of the rain lately the creek was raging which made the dozen or so water crossing more of a challenge. Initially I tried to keep my feet dry, but after falling during the second crossing, that went out the window and walked through it at that point. As I got closer to the waterfall, the noise from it really picked it and once I got to it, I knew why, it was insane! I've been to this spot a half dozen times and this is the most water I've ever seen come down it. It's not tall by any means (20 feet) but it's pretty wide and still impressive. Continued on to the 100 year old Y Bar B corral and trough, took a break and headed back. Back at the TH 8-10 jeeps filled with snowbirds decided they were going to have a party at the ranch, which ruined the quietness, good thing it was time to head out. Saw no other hikers all day, weather was a bit cool and breezy but felt nice. Another great day in the Supes! |
