A delightful trek up to the picketpost mountain Summit this morning with 2 friends who haven't been there before.

We got started at 620a and were blissfully in the shade the entire way up. The first climb we choose a not great way up, but we remedied that on the way down by sticking to the left. In general, I found the way much easier to find now that when I did this trail 5 years ago. It has definitely seen a lot more use, and the trail shows the wear. I don't mind that so much, but there really is a lot of spray painted arrows (blue, red, white...) as well as dripped white paint to mark the way. Sad graffiti on an otherwise beautiful trail.

There were TONS of wildflowers! All colors of the rainbow! I was pleasantly surprised, as I thought they would be mostly done by now. In addition to the wildflowers, all the cacti but the chollas were blooming. We saw many fuschia hedge hogs, the saguaros, pricky pear, and the Ocotillo! So beautiful!

At the top, there is a new mailbox. I hadn't realized the old one was gone (as is the bench), but my friend told me on the way up that there was only a flag. There was no flag, but the mailbox is inscribed with a date of 4/18/2023 compliments of the dbag hikers.

Not too many people were on the trail, but I guess it depends on your reference. Thankfully far less than say for flatiron. We saw 3 people total ahead of us. Thankfully, they were leaving the top as we were arriving up. It was nice to have the Summit to ourselves. As we left the Summit, another group was just arriving. We also saw a few more groups ascending as we descended. We wanted get an early start to beat the heat.
