| partners | | Decided it was time to pick up and deliver some mail today, you know that neither rain nor snow nor 2,000 foot climb will stop the mail delivery. Apparently a 13 mile hike the day before doesn’t slow down the mail either as Linda dragged the mailbag and myself in a respectable 1:35 to the summit. Unfortunately my stimulus check was not in box yet, mailed our letters and briefly enjoyed the views and then Linda being a good partner joined me in visiting the North end peak as I wanted to show her where I used to operate the heliograph site back in the day Headed off toward a lone Saguaro near the eastern drop off , I tried to find the least scratchy path, I’d like to say it was a nice walk through blooming wildflowers but I’m not able to say that. In fact there were tons of land mines of camoflaged pin cushion cactus to step around. Once there I enjoyed viewing the cliffs along the edge on this mountain always looked to me like someone stacked rocks to make the cliffs until they ran out. Came across a nice campsite with a fire pit and grill included. On reaching the north end had a twilight zone moment as there is a canister labelled as containing the cremains of someone , I had seen it before but the last time I was here it was missing so now it’s back .We took a snack break here well away from the restless spirit “urn” while overlooking the views of the Superstition Wilderness, old Pinal City, Arboretum , Queen Creek and Superior. Not sure why but I was allowed a longer than typical break, dished out a few dad jokes to make sure someone’s eye roll muscles got a workout too,at least I think their funny. Linda picked the descent slides to go down while dodging rocks I was kicking down at her ,at least I didn’t roll into her , I did manage one graceful slip up once down to the flat part . Afterwards I had the idea about going into Superior to get a Cuban sandwich luckily Linda had declined ,something about meeting the school bus , of course then I found out the sandwiches are only available on Saturdays . Decided to get gas too which wasn’t particularly cheap at $2.99 a gallon. At least it was a great hiking day with awesome company! |
