| no partners | | After hiking to the summit of Gold Mountain, on the way back I stopped and did a self-guided walking tour of the old mining town of Gold Point. Gold and silver were mined in the area in the early part of the 20th century.
At its peak, the town had a population of around 1,000 with over 225 wood-framed buildings, tents and shacks throughout the camp. Many of the buildings remain, although the current population is 7.
I walked around and took a lot of photos of a bunch of old, historical stuff. The highlight was what I'll call the Gold Point Death Row: a jail cell with a gallows on top of it. |
