| no partners | | I decided to hike up to Mount Ord today, but with the heat wave I decided to hike a shorter route from the west rather than starting at the Slate Creek TH.
I started and ended at the 626 TH, which is about one mile up FR 626 from the Beeline Highway. There is a large parking area on the right side of the road just before a corral, and I parked there.
It is hard to get lost on this hike -- just stay on FR 626 all the way to the summit, and then turn around and come back.
I got started at 5:00 AM, which is about 30 minutes later than I intended. The temperature at the TH was 78 when I started, and it was a nice hike up to the summit. It started to get a bit warm on the way back as I got closer to the TH, but at least I was going downhill at that point.
I may do this one some more until the weather cools off, when I'll likely once again hike from the Slate Creek TH.
Synopsis
This one is easier than hiking Ord from the Slate Creek TH (it is shorter, has less elevation gain, and has much better tread to hike on) but it is still a decent workout. |

Wildflowers Observation Isolated on the lower part of FR 626 quite a few century plants had flowers on them, but that was it for wildflowers |
