| no partners | | I visited Chaco in conjunction with my Bisti trip. It was my third time there. It was bitterly cold but I had the park to myself. I camped in the campground which is still undergoing repairs of the sewer system so the group campsites are not available. I was it.
I toured Pueblo Bonito, Chetro Ketl, Casa Rinconda by myself. I have a particular fascination with the lighting thru the doorways at Bonito. This trip afternoon light was nice.
Chaco Wash was flowing so access to Penasco Blanco was limited. I entertained myself on the Alta Mesa trail, with it's overlooks of the great houses, and the short trek to Wijiji pueblo.
This place haunts me, the scale, the workmanship, the stark surroundings. Off trail is not encouraged here but I have found some nice little gems in alcoves in the nearby cliffs. I suspect this area is much richer than is presented to the tourist, some known, some unknown. |
