Hiked from the Crosscut TH down to the junction with the trail to the Broadway Cave and turned around. Saw 2 groups of deer, and 2 raptors. One of my better hikes for wildlife. the first group of deer were at the same general area where I saw a larger group 4 years ago when I hiked this trail with my son.
Early part of the hike hiking in the shade of the mountain is interesting. It almost seems cloudy because it's darker around you, but you can see the morning light hitting the mountains in the surrounding area. On the way back a plane was buzzing around the mountain. As it flew over the west side north of Siphon Draw, I could hear both the engine from the plane directly and the echo of it from inside Siphon Draw. Interesting to note this as it happened.
Light hiker traffic early, more as I finished walking thru LDSP. Saw 2 equestrians. I got off the trail, but they were already waiting because the trail went down thru a wash and back up, so they saw the hiker traffic coming the other way as they got to that spot.
lot was full when I got back, had people waiting on me to pull out so the could take my spot. |
