I started from the Broadway TH to get a little more mileage in. There is an actual trail that starts just past the fence, but it soon goes into the wash and from there it's all rock hopping, until it turns into bouldering. I was expecting at some point that it would transition to more slickrock since it seemed like that one small area seems like it gets posted by everyone. Several times I was considering turning around because it was more work than I was in the mood for.

Once I got to the waterfall, my first thought was that no way was I going to make it up that. There was an obvious route up, but it was too exposed for my comfort. I've been dealing with benign positional vertigo the last month or so, so that wasn't happening. I spotted a route to the left that was steep and loose, but not exposed. I got up to the top of that route and was near the top of the falls and ready to turn back when I spotted some petroglyphs. I was able to find a few clusters within eyeshot without having to go much further. That was enough for me. Maybe on a better day I might have been more adventurous to head up higher, but at this point my main concern was how I was going to get back down.

I took my time getting down, making my steps very carefully. Once I got to the bouldering part, I made better time going downhill. On the way in I was expecting the hike back down to be even rougher, but gravity helped me out. It's also easier to spot the best route from above working your way down.

I saw 3 hikers in the canyon on my way down and talked with them a bit. Saw a family on their way in about a half mile from trailhead and that was about it. a younger group at the trailhead was getting ready to head out, maybe to the cave.

This ended up being harder than I expected it to be, but I'm glad I did it and made it as far as I did. Everything was pretty dry, but I don't think I would have enjoyed hiking up the wash with any appreciable amount of water to avoid and make it even harder, or get my feet wet. and then the idea of being near the waterfall and wet steep rock was also a big non starter.
