Second crosscut trail in 2 days. Started from the Broadway TH in the dark and first headed up Monument Canyon since I had never been there before. I only went as far as the trails go, which wasn’t far. I wasn’t in the mood to hike in the wash and deal with the overgrowth and rocky terrain, so I headed back to Jacob’s Trail and hiked north. Got to the canyon south of Siphon Draw and turned around.

On my way back I ran into a guy from India who had started from the Broadway TH and wanted to know how far it was to the trail to the Flatiron. I told him he had at least another mile to that junction and then had the whole ascent after that. He mentioned that he wanted to be done by noon and since it was past 9:30am I told him that likely wasn’t going to happen from Broadway TH. We talked for a bit and he had several questions about where to hike and that he’s only been here 2 years. I directed him to HikeArizona.com and gave advice to his more immediate questions. He ended up hiking back to the TH with me and we talked about the trails around Phoenix and what might good hikes for kids, as he has 2 younger ones. Seemed like a nice guy, I recommended that he post hikes and use the website as a resource as necessary.

Weather was chilly in the dark and then got warm quickly once the sun hit. Most trail traffic was between the TH and the junction to Broadway Cave, which looked like the popular spot that day.
