At the trailhead map sign, be sure to take a right so that you are on the correct trail. You want to be on the Bug Spring trail, not the Green Mountain trail for this hike. The Bug Spring trail is also part of the Arizona trail. Take the well maintained Bug Spring trail for 0.62 miles to the saddle between this peak and Peak 6810. The first 1/2 mile will be uphill and the next 0.12 miles will have a slight downhill grade. The trail continues down the slope into the canyon below.

On this hike you will see a lot of manzanita, some oak, juniper, various pines, agave, yucca, bear grass, etc. I didn't see much cactus, maybe a few stray prickly pears. The rest of the hike to the peak follows a faint use trail and I would say there's a small amount of bushwhack in a few areas because the trail is quite overgrown.

From this saddle you will get on the ridgeline for Peak 6512 and look for a use trail. There are many places where the trail is hard to find, but the brush in most of these places is easy to squeeze through. You will stay near the top of the ridgeline for the most part. If the ridgeline is too full of brush look for use trails on the South or North side of the ridgeline.

At about 1.2 miles total, I found myself heading West on top of a rock formation that was a dead end. This area makes for some nice photos. When you reach the dead end, just head back East about 100 feet and look for a channel going North down to a section that is about 30-40 feet lower. Follow that down and continue West past the rock formation. You should see some use trails in that area. Continue following use trails staying fairly close to the ridgeline until you reach the summit.

Note: My GPS route continues for roughly 0.55 miles past the summit because I wanted to see if there was a better trail leading down on the other side to the West. My conclusion was it wasn't worth exploring beyond 1/2 mile. The ridgeline is full of hoodoos, the slope below the hoodoos is steep on both sides, and the entire mountain is full of brush. I did find some open areas and possibly some animal trails but they didn't seem to go anywhere. It's probably possible to do the round-trip to the summit and back in 3.2 miles.

Directions: Take Mt Lemmon Hwy to Lower Green Mtn trailhead. This is also the upper Bug Spring trailhead. Parking at the trailhead should be free, but most, if not all, of the nearby picnic areas have a fee.

My Stats:
----------
Distance (round trip) = 4.19 miles
AEG = 1,294
Strava moving time = 2 hrs 32 mins
Strava elapsed time = 4 hrs 37 mins
