| no partners | | Arrived at the trailhead after 11 am (long drive) and the huge parking lot was nearly full. There were restrooms at the trailhead but no water. This was a popular area and there had to be a lot of tourists here. I even heard some people speaking French, and maybe a few other languages. The trail was very well maintained and there were a lot of signs along the way. There were a few lookout areas also with some nice views of Tom's Thumb. I didn't have time to hike that this time, but if I get up there again, I would do it.
I took the Tom's Thumb trail about 1.7 miles and turned left on an unmarked spur trail which led up to East End peak. I didn't see anyone else on that trail, as it wasn't marked. The spur trail got pretty steep at times but wasn't anything more than Class 2+. At the top of the spur trail there was a fenced in solar panel. I found some US survey markers, not at the official high point, but North of the official high point on some larger rocks. I didn't see a registry anywhere on this peak, surprisingly, and I forgot to bring an extra jar this time. Overall it was a very enjoyable hike.
