| no partners | | This is my favorite BGWR summit. I love that summit view! So, on 2-29 while looking at some old phone photos I hatched a plan. Brian was able to join me, though I suspect after today he wishes he hadn't! This is a rough one, for sure. I really enjoyed myself being back here, and at least for the Wellton area of the BGWR, I probably won't head much further south of the road to Sheep until the main road is repaired.
There are a lot of desert flowers with an increasing amount of canyon chuparosa.
I spotted 2 bighorn when I was almost to the summit. We had been seeing a lot of sheep scat for most of the upper ridgeline, and when looking to the east about 100 feet from the top I heard rocks falling. I looked down and was able to see 2 sheep, 1 was a ewe and the other was probably a ewe although I never saw more than it's rear running away and so there is a chance it was a ram. I always see bighorns out here.
I did also encounter 2 dog ticks, though. While descending below the saddle I felt them on my arm. I hope I don't have others of them.
Nothing really changed. The ridge is still a tough but fun scramble. I should have brought my gloves, but didn't. That would help on descent. |
