| partners | | On our 3rd day in Santa Fe we decided to take an easy day and we headed to the Los Alamos area, Jemez Spring. We went to Battleship Rock and hiked the McCauley Warm Spring Trail. I have never been in this area so the drive through Los Alamos was breathtaking. From the drive in there are a lot of trails that look interesting to take but will have to wait for another time.
Steep trail along the east fork of Jemez Creek. Got lost on the way up in spite that the trail is easy to follow, go figure. There is a side trail that I believe heads off to the top of Battle ship Rock and that's where we got "lost". I didn't have a GPS route so I wasn't sure where the trail went. After a little wandering around to find the trail I finally found it. On our return trip we stayed on trail.
The warm spring is 2 miles in with about 900 AEG so it filters out all except those who are willing to put in the work. Only two other people when we got there and 3 separate pools so we had one to ourselves. The spring isn't hot but the water is warm, perfect for soaking. Two other people came in as we were heading out.
The trail continues on for at least another 2 miles to Jemez Falls but we didn't have time for that. Sounds like another trip on one of our Tucson Lubbock trips. |
