| partners | | Since we got back to Tucson I have been busy catching up on work around the yard, not much time for any hiking. It is still quite warm to be hiking at lower elevations but we decided to take a drive out to Happy Valley east of the Rincon Mountains and do a short hike to Soldier Falls ( I believe also known as Happy Valley Falls). Not a long hike (1 mile total) for the hour drive to get there. With the Monsoon Rains the falls were flowing. The temps were in the upper 80's and the sun was setting behind Rincon Peak which was just west of us. The water wasn't cold but not warm so it felt good. Since this hike was fairly short we had time to drive further up into Happy Valley, very scenic. Saw lots of wild life, Golden Eagle, Turkeys one deer, a real cowboy on a horse with dog and lots of cows.

The falls are something to see when the water is flowing. Monsoon season or spring are probably the best times although monsoon season may be a little warm. We picked the end of the day because Rincon Mountains puts the falls in shade after 4 or 5 in the afternoon. The drive through Happy Valley was quite pleasant. I have never been past the Turkey Creek Trail head turnoff. Lots of Private property mixed with Forest Service Land, Probably best to get a map that shows the difference. The road is in good condition when we were there probably not Prius friendly but I bet it could be done with careful driving. Page Creek had a little water in sections. Ash and Miller Creek were dry along the road crossings. |
