Ended up going over to Estrella’s competitive track. I didn’t feel like doing an actual trail but the tall peak that the competitive track circles has been on my list for a number of years. Parked at the Desert Rose TH and started by taking the Rose to where it almost crosses the competitive track. This aligned nicely with a slope that led up towards the summit. The incline wasn’t too bad until you neared the top where it got steeper. I imagine a more thoughtful approach could have cut down on some of the steepness. Took about 40 minutes to reach the first of two summits. It was a short hike along the ridgeline to reach the second summit. Not sure, but I think the second peak was a little taller. There were some signs that I was not the first to tackle this hill….graffiti and debris. Views were ok. It would definitely be considered a “nose bleed” seat if you wanted to watch NASCAR from here. You’d only be able to see half the track, but you would have plenty of elbow room. Decided to take a different route down, which lead me in a more westward direction. The terrain ended up being about the same. This descent eventually lead to the “technical track” which I used to connect to the Desert Rose and make my back to the car. It was a little more than I was looking for, but a neat hike. Had the trails to myself. No wildlife.
Annoyed with myself. I had forgotten my Garmin for this hike, so mileage and elevation is just a guess. |
