| no partners | | Started before dawn, hiked the first 2.5 miles in the dark. I missed a turn at the confusing 4way intersection and had to backtrack or else hike an extra mile plus. Once it was a little lighter, I found an unmarked trail that was a bit of a shortcut and made up a little distance.
First direct sunlight hit me where Cactus Garden meets the Red Mountain Rush Trail, which was about 5.5 miles in. Then heading down Red Mountain Rush there was a little more shade. Halfway down it was full sunlight the rest of the way. Not much traffic on RMR, but the traffic that was there was moving pretty fast, so you had to be careful and listen for them coming down.
headed back on the Riverview Trail, which can be a bit of a slog as it's not much elevation gain, but it's not really level, either. Moderate traffic on that trail, but not too bad. Weather stayed fairly cool the entire time, warmed up a bit towards the end. No other hikers all day, just bikers and one trail runner very early on. |
