I drove out to the southern Bulldog Canyon gate on the south end of FR10 and did a loop from there. I headed north on FR10 and then took FR1356 north and east over to FR3512, headed south and hiked over Blue Ridge back to the Bulldog Canyon gate. It was all dirt roads until the end of FR3512.
The segment of the trail on the west side of Blue Ridge is steep and very dicey. I had to make sure every step I took was on bare rock and not any of the scree covering it. After that it was an easy hike back to the gate.
There can be a lot of traffic on the roads here with the side by sides and bikers, but today wasn’t bad. Only really saw 2 side by sides and no dirt bikes. The human sacrifice pit at the end of Hackamore Road had a fire going as I was headed south towards it. I could see the black smoke rising. By the time I got there flames were still visible and soon burnt out. Someone must have lit the fire not long before I got there. That area has always had an odd vibe and it’s even weirder now since it’s an actual murder scene from almost 2 years ago. Fortunately no incidents today.
Lots of traffic was starting to hit FR10 as I got back, and I was happy to miss it. Nice to get a hike in and get some nice views further in. |
