Worked up a sweat going up Telegraph Pass to National, once there only passed 2 other hikers until the extension to Dobbins Lookout reached. New territory for me , enjoyed the views to the north toward the city from National while passing right under the towers and near the National high point. Sure seemed like Dobbins Lookout was a mirage for quite awhile as we circled in on it. Nice non rocky tread on the portion of the Holbert Trail we hiked on. Once there nice views of the city, further away there was some haziness, the breeze through the shelter where we took a break was quite cooling. Surprised but not wanting to be a complainer I didn’t mention to Linda that I noticed everyone else at the lookout had driven up in their air conditioned vehicle . Thank God for me as on the way back I managed to slow us down enough to prevent heat exhaustion , the sun was now intense and it was warming up quickly. On the way back Linda showed me the old Holbert Lookout, decent views , kind of a shame this CCC built project is no longer in use. Very large squirrel, probably tourist fed, at Dobbins Lookout and that was about it for wildlife. Turned out to be a perfect hike for us today as temps would have been unpleasant for any further distance. Our route scout apps didn’t quite match up , I liked my stats better so I used them .Somehow I managed to post it on Holbert Trail though, guess I really liked it! |
