| no partners | | Sun Hoodie test, round five. Today we're trying out the TRUEWERK Viz Yellow as it became obvious I would need at least two gangster hoodies between wash loads.
No breeze feels pretty good compared to my Baleaf. This is more of a clean fit. It does not obstruct my view, so it will probably get more use. The Baleaf has better sun protection for the face if used to its full extent. Wouldn't need ChapStick on long summer hikes.
The nice thing about the Viz Yellow is you could run out onto a freeway and a perceptually blind drunken driver would safely swerve around you. On the other hand, you might be a target for the sober.
Gnats made a bold entrance. Just need a mesh-type screen inset/cup for the face and they wouldn't be an issue at all.
After 10+ days and a bazillion builds trying to fix the RS map display issue it might work better. Several other tiny updates so I'm sending 6.8.7(2) off to release.
fixed limits-popup values & made it human readable
In early February I started reworking stats after several inconsistencies were pointed out, overdue for revalidating/updating.
Should be more consistent and has been holding well on several duo posters in recent weeks. Won't please all. The results are realistic. All devices produce eye-opening results over the exact same course on multiple hikes.
At any rate, OK button does not work on static images: [ image ]
updated map dependency
The open-source map code updated. Trivial for our purposes, just staying current.
added green for online and blue for offline "layer" title background
The origin of a mini-feature I've wanted for over a decade. It's easy to acquire an Android through multiple languages. iOS restricts network state and the only way to "guess" is by combining two indirect readings through their Swift coding language. Android has its own Kotlin language too. I don't want to learn either, but AI is happy to assist. Far from usable, just getting the ball rolling.
added a more aggressive missing map tile population
Various map tiles occasionally are missing for various reasons. This helps request them again when resources are available. Sort of a three strikes you're out, instead of one until the next reboot.
recoded initial map display
The reason for the release after several field tests. Based on history and luck, it absolutely won't work.
It's a complex issue because it cannot be recreated on a simulator. Nor recreated for that matter cuz there is no error or much of anything to increase debugging. So we isolate and try new angles.
What we know works: The map displays on reboot. Seemingly related to the Activity map vs the Preview/Review map.
When it fails: most often after driving to another location(both iOS and Android platforms).
In the previous release, we rerendered the map layers each time the screen was turned on. I tested on both platforms (Begin Activity > maps displayed > delete) between other tasks throughout the day for several days without a single fail.
In this release we do not initialize the map code at startup, we wait until Begin Activity. After Delete or Finish we destroy it and rebuild it. In theory, it should be like rebooting RS when it works, tested well, in multiple locations but... yeah right and it still had a slight delay displaying until moving the map on two field tests
EDIT
Dixie pointed out a bug in the 6.8.7 release hours later, so 6.8.8 was quickly sent to release
